Area Attractions

There is much to do and see in the area, so consider extending your visit to the Mattole.

Camp or hike the Lost Coast:

The King Range National Conservation Area lies between the Mattole River basin and the coast, and the Lost Coast between the mouth of the Mattole River and Shelter Cove is a popular hike.  There is also a BLM campsite at the river mouth.  For more information: https://www.blm.gov/nlcs_web/sites/ca/st/en/prog/nlcs/King_Range_NCA.html.

Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, south from Shelter Cove, is another good option: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=429.

For more comfortable family camping (e.g., showers), consider the A. W. Way County Park: http://www.humboldtgov.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/A-W-Way-1

Attend the MRC’s annual celebration:

In case you stay, the MRC will be holding an annual celebration on Saturday, June 24, at our native plant nursery on Chambers Rd in Petrolia, from 4-10pm.  On Sunday, there will be a Café and Farmer’s Market from 10 to 1 at the Mattole Valley Community Center, also in Petrolia.
