Resource Center Update
May 10, 2001
MRC’s Resource Center helps landowners and residents find the information and maps they need to make informed decisions about land use in the Mattole watershed. MRC offers assistance in many ways, such as helping a landowner figure out how to control exotic plants, how to stabilize hillslopes and repair roads, and how to reduce fire risk around the property.
You may be interested in finding out how to get funding to do a restoration project in your neighborhood. MRC can provide books on restoration techniques, advice on how to pitch a project to a funding source, or assistance in developing cost estimates and project maps.
Speaking of maps, we can now produce a wide variety of maps of the watershed, ranging from watershed-wide maps of geography, vegetation cover or rainfall, to maps specific to your property. For as little as $20 to $30, we can produce a map of your property showing your roads, prairies, creeks, and more. We also have information on each Mattole tributary, so we can give you data on local salmon runs and past restoration projects and timber harvest plans in your neighborhood. Call Jeremy or Vikki at the MRC office for more information on map pricing and availability.
We’re all worried about how new regulations are going to affect our lives on the land. Many people want to know how they can take voluntary steps to meet new regulations or how to document the types of improvements they are making to their land. MRC’s Resource Center is a source of information on these topics.
Most items in the Resource Center can be checked out, from historical aerial photos (What did the property look like in 1942?) to maps and map analysis (How many miles of creeks or roads are on my place?) to books, videos and CDs (What is this weed spreading all over the fields?). If we don’t have the information you are looking for, we’ll try hard to find it for you. Call us to make an appointment, or drop by Tuesday through Thursday from 10am to 3pm.
