Tree Plant Report
May 31, 2002
This year MRC planted 17,000 native Douglas Fir Trees in the Mattole. Working with locals in each region, we were privileged to reforest road removal projects and slides in; Lower Mill Creek, South Fork Bear Creek, and the Middle Mattole area. Evidence of past restoration efforts by the landowners was encouraging.
Trees are being grown for future projects, and priority areas being identified and scheduled for planting.
The reforestation program will focus this year on our riparian vegetation. In addition to our Native Douglas Fir, we’ll be planting Maple, Alder, Redwood, and other species native to our watershed, in areas identified as needing them. We will be surveying and assessing various creeks, as well as the Mattole, gathering data for these projects. For more info, call Keith at MRC, 629-3514.
