The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be updating the existing King Range National Conservation Area (KRNCA) management plan. The current management plan was finalized in 1974 and will be 30 years old by the time the new plan is in place. A completed plan is expected by June 2004.
Nobody realized 30 years ago the extent of recreational use that KRNCA would be experiencing now. The new plan will cover future goals, objectives, allowable uses, fire management, watershed management, endangered and threatened species protection, cultural resource protection, acquisition goals, landowner right-of-ways, emergency services, and transportation issues to address current usage.
Now is the time to offer input to the planning process. The KRNCA managers would like to set up several informal meetings as well as a few large public meetings to gather public input. If you would like to set up a meeting in your neighborhood with the plan managers, please call Bob Wick at 825-2321, or Gary Pritchard Peterson at 986-5402.
