The
mission of the Middle Mattole Conservancy is to encourage
and provide for the responsible stewardship of our lands
and waterways through outreach, education and restoration.
Their goal is to aid in the recovery of our lands and
enhance the future existance of many rare, threatened
and endangered species that inhabit Redwoods State Park
and Gilham Butte.
The MMC does restoration work and conservation
projects in the Middle Mattole and are currently developing
a Cooperative Management Plan for the Gilham Butte area.
They have established a resource center and library
which offers information that would not ordinarily be
available in such a remote area, including books, educational
videos and maps.
The MMC also works with the Mattole
Restoration Council in numerous ways, helping to assist
in and pioneer their Good Roads Clear Creeks project.
They offered a training for local residents in road
and stream inventories, which resulted in numerous miles
of road inventory and the development of prescriptions
for future projects.
