BACKGROUND
In winter of 2002, Mattole Restoration Council developed
a Fire Plan for the Lower Mattole watershed with funding
from the US Forest Service. The MRC held community meetings
in ten neighborhoods to gather information on resident
concerns, locations of water sources, homes, and roads,
and potential fuel reduction projects. |
|
The result was a 54-page document prioritizing neighborhood
fuel reduction projects and examining firefighting resources
in each locality. The plan also contains appendices on fire
project funding sources, fire-safe literature, fuels reduction
literature, fire ecology and management literature, Fire Safe
Council literature, applicable legislation, and weblinks.
